Universal Audio Orion Tape Echo Effect Pedal
New to their line of stompbox pedals is the Universal Audio Orion Tape Echo! This compact pedal derives from UA’s flagship Starlight Echo Station delay, a dual-DSP recreation of the Maestro EP-III tube tape echo from the 1970s. For those in search of a simpler and more cost-effective way of having the sounds of tape echo on a pedalboard, the Orion is here.
On the face of the pedal are controls for delay time, mix, feedback, record level – or input gain – and Wonk, which adds in the wow and flutter associated with the sound of the EP-III. A three-way switch selects between tape styles, increasing simulated tape age and saturation.
On the back, the Orion features a simple single mono input and output. The Preamp toggle allows the user to select whether the pedal’s modeled analog EP-III preamp is on at all times or only when the effect is engaged. True and buffered bypass is also selectable via the same method. On the side, a USB-C input allows the user to connect to the UA Connect app via computer for registration and firmware updates.
Get the sound of 1970s tape delay in an incredibly compact format with the Universal Audio Orion Tape Echo.
