Music Man Stringray Special 5 HH, Roasted Maple Neck, Ebony Fretboard, Smoked Chrome
The Stingray Special 5 HH combines Ernie Ball’s groundbreaking design from 1987 with a handful of modern upgrades, setting a standard for extended range, 5-string basses.
Ernie Ball Music Man takes comfort seriously, and the StingRay 5 Special Edition boasts a redesigned Stingray Special-style body for extra comfort during extended playing. Weighing in about a pound lighter than its predecessors due to its lightweight tuning machines and hardware, the body of this bass is cut from select hardwood into the iconic Stingray shape.Â
A great neck is non-negotiable, and the StingRay 5 Special HH delivers just that, with a premium roasted maple neck attached to its body with 5 bolts, featuring an ebony fingerboard. The back of the neck, finished with a unique blend of special wax and gunstock oil feels great to the hand, and the 11″ radius fretboard features 22 high-wide style frets, and a total scale length of 34″.
The heart of this bass’ tonal versatility, however, lies in its soapbar-style neodymium humbuckers, powerhouse bass pickups that translate nuances of playing into a thick low-end punch in the gut. These redesigned active pickups are designed specifically for bass, and offer enhanced sonic range, with an 18-volt preamp system featuring a 3-band EQ that allows sculpting of sound with precision.
Including a unique Smoked Chrome finish, the StingRay 5 Special Edition pays respect to its predecessors while incorporating modern touches that set it apart from previous variations. Its body is finished in high gloss polyester and a fully black headstock offers a slight touch of aesthetic charm.Â
