Taylor 50th Anniversary Builder’s Edition 814ce Ltd, Sinker Redwood/Indian Rosewood w/Case
Celebrating its 50th anniversary, Taylor Guitars introduced a handful of new models, including a limited edition 314ce, an American Dream AD14ce, and this incredible Builder’s Edition 814ce. This 50th Anniversary model is a refined version of Taylor’s flagship Grand Auditorium model, showcasing a unique combination of tonewoods, featuring an Indian rosewood back and sides, and an exceptionally rare sinker redwood top. The guitar’s design is one made with ergonomic planning, making it a standout in both the Builder’s Edition and 50th Anniversary worlds.Â
The sinker redwood used in the top is sourced from logs reclaimed from Northern California rivers, and offers a touch sensitivity similar to that of cedar. Its back and sides are cut from Indian rosewood, slightly darker in color than that top, creating a nice contrast between the two and offering a beautiful, deep vertical grain that runs the length of the back of the instrument. The body is finished with a Kona edgeburst and a gloss finish, highlighting its contours.
The neck of the 814ce LTD is cut from mahogany, and features a fingerboard made of Crelicam ebony featuring Element, Gold-Hued Mother of Pearl inlays. With a tight grain and a naturally extremely dark color, the fingerboard complements the sinker redwood top color beautifully when facing the guitar head-on. The peghead inlay in gold-hued mother-of-pearl, along with maple purfling around the fretboard and peghead are details that make this guitar worthy of celebrating Taylor’s 50th birthday. The neck features silver side dots, while the guitar’s scale length is set at 25.5″, with a nut width measuring 1.75″ wide.
The Builder’s Edition 814ce LTD is also equipped with Taylor’s renowned Expression System 2 (ES2) electronics, like the rest of the 50th Anniversary models. This onboard system ups the versatility of the instrument, making it suitable for both studio recordings and live performances, and guaranteeing a high-fidelity amplified tone.Â
Visual details on this 50th Anniversary model include a single-ring rosette with green abalone inlays, accented by rosewood/maple/black purfling. The top purfling features alternating black/maple/rosewood layers, and a rosewood-bound soundhole is a visual cherry on top, and the Indian rosewood back and sides are complemented by subtle maple purfling around the back.
Limited to only 1,974 guitars worldwide, each instrument is a celebration of Taylor’s legacy. This guitar comes with a custom hardshell case.
