Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster Custom, Relic Super Faded Aged Dakota Red
This beautiful Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster Custom Relic comes to us in Super Faded Aged Dakota Red, as a simple reminder of the raw power and playability of the Telecaster. Though many associate Telecaster Customs with ’70s models featuring a humbucker in their neck, the earlier, pre-CBS buyout iterations did not share that feature, but were still constantly being developed by Leo Fender to offer their customers the best possible playing experience.
This specific Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster Custom Relic boasts a body cut from two pieces of ash, both sorted by the Fender Custom Shop for optimal light weight, making this Tele Custom slightly lighter than many of its counterparts. Top and back body binding also help to differentiate this model from later versions of the Tele Custom, and in this case have a large impact on the overall aesthetic of the instrument.Â
Bolted on with a four-bolt neck plate, the 5/4-sawn maple neck of this guitar is carved to a vintage-inspired 1960 Rounded “U” shape, and fills the palm generously just like a vintage Telecaster neck would. A flat lam, AAA rosewood fingerboard, sorted for the best color, occupies the front of the neck, marked with vintage clay, wide-spaced dot inlays that live between the 21 Medium Jumbo frets, and work well with the body’s color. The rear of the neck is relic’d down to the wood, offering a very smooth and very comfortable feeling friction against the hand while traversing it. The neck specs measure .790″ to .930″ from frets one to twelve, and the bone nut measures 1.650 inches wide.Â
Twisted Tele pickups designed by the FCS make this Tele Custom a tonal standout.
These pickups offer a “twist” of high-output tone, mixed with a touch of Strat tone as well. Specifically wired for each position, the neck pickup features a taller bobbin to accommodate additional windings, while the bridge pickup boasts a slightly shorter bobbin, resulting in rich, full-bodied midrange tones with a touch of darkness.
Let’s not forget about the finish, though. The body boasts the FCS Relic treatment, meaning you will find light checking on all parts of it, as well as certain areas worn to ash through the finish, in the form of buckle rash, forearm wear, and miscellaneous portions of wear on the contours.Â
This beautiful guitar comes with a beautiful FCS brown hardshell case to match it.Â
