Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster, Rosewood Fingerboard, Heavy Relic Aged Sea Foam Green Over 3-Color Sunburst
This Fender Custom Shop ’60 Telecaster is one of the more unique that we’ve taken in, with a FCS Heavy Relic Aged Sea Foam Green Over 3-Color Sunburst finish, a reverse control plate, and a pickup configuration that makes it stand out as a very special piece from the genius luthiers in Corona, CA.
This gorgeous instrument pays respect to the classic Telecaster design while incorporating modern features for enhanced playability and tone, and features a ’60 Tele Custom body shape, crafted from 2-piece Alder that’s been sorted for weight to ensure an optimally light instrument. The seam of the two pieces sits off-center, slightly toward the treble side.
The neck of the ’60 Telecaster, attached to its body with a 4-bolt attachment, is carved from 5/4 sawn maple to a comfy Large “C” profile. It features a flat lam fingerboard cut from AAA Rosewood and sorted for dark color, ensuring that this rosewood is a deep, dark and beautiful color to contrast the rest of the instrument. The fingerboard features a compound radius ranging from 7.25 inches to 9.50 inches, and 21 Narrow Tall (6105) frets, with Vintage Clay inlays widely spaced between them. The nut width measures 1.625″, and it is carved from bone.
At the tonal heart of the ’60 Telecaster are its pickups, chosen to deliver timeless tone and versatility at the same time. In the neck position, the Seymour Duncan SH-1 ’59 Model Neck 4-conductor, Relic’d Nickel pickup captures the essence of the classic PAF humbucker, offering a tone commonly associated with early Les Paul models. The bridge position hosts a reversed Handwired Loaded ’51 Nocaster Relic’d pickup, delivering the iconic twang and warmth associated with early Fender Telecasters. This unique configuration makes this telecaster one-of-a-kind, sonically, controlled with a Dual Stack HS Tele switch. The control plate is reversed, meaning heavy-handed players don’t need to sweat hitting the selector, and the volume and tone knobs are a little closer when the need for quick adjustments arises.
The finish of the ’60 Telecaster is a standout feature, showcasing a beautifully applied Heavy Relic Nitro Lacquer treatment to an Aged Sea Foam Green, over a 3-Color Sunburst. This finish recreates the look of a well-worn instrument with a storied history. The relic treatment, the highest level offered by Fender Custom Shop, authentically replicates the wear and tear of decades of heavy use, including areas revealing the guitar’s original 3-color Sunburst finish, as well as a neck rear that’s worn essentially down to its wood with very little finish left. The headcap of the ’60 Telecaster features a matching painted finish, offering some symmetry the guitar’s overall aesthetic. Completing the vintage-inspired look is the ’60 Tele Tortoise Shell Relic’d pickguard, Top Hat Tele White Relic’d switch tip, and knurled chrome knobs.
Additional details include .060″ Parchment body binding, a 4-bolt neck mounting configuration, and a relic’d Vintage neck plate adorned with the Fender logo. This guitar comes with a FCS brown hard case that exudes the same beauty as the guitar itself.
