Fender Custom Shop ’64 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic Electric Guitar, Aged Olympic White
From the fine folks at the Fender Custom Shop we have this, a ’64 Stratocaster in Aged Olympic White with Journeyman Relic.
Is it ever a bad day to receive a new Excalibur from the Fender Custom Shop? We can definitely think of worse days! And here we most certainly have a choice example of one of the most storied guitars of the better part of the last century.
This Custom Shop ’64 Stratocaster is bathed in vintage allure, calling out to the player who craves yesterday’s guitar today. It comes from the Time Machine series of Custom Shop instruments, which draw as direct of inspiration as you can get from Fender’s original guitars made all those years ago. This particular Strat looks as if it may have been your grandparent’s guitar, perhaps having had its glory days and stored safely as a memento of all those great times, lovingly kept in as good of shape as possible. Aged by the sun and the air, now it’s time for the next of kin to take on its spirit.
To begin with, this gorgeous Custom Shop Strat features a two-piece Alder body and Maple neck – classic Fender design. The neck is Quartersawn Maple, meaning the wood used to carve the neck was cut with the grain. The end result is a neck with grater substance and enhanced sustain. The neck is fitted with a Round Laminate Rosewood fingerboard, 21 6105 frets, and Vintage Clay face dots. It features a classic ’63 “C” style neck carve, with no extreme relic work applied to its Nitrocellulose lacquer. This would be an example of a Medium Tint option. If you ever find yourself spec’ing out a Custom Shop Fender, neck tint is indeed an option!
As for electronics, this Custom Shop Stratocaster is loaded with a trio of Fender Handwired ’64 Fat Strat pickups. The middle pickup is built Reverse Wound/Reverse Polarity, meaning in the classic Fender Strat positions 2 and 4, any 60-cycle hum is canceled from the guitar’s output. For our three controls we have master volume, neck and middle pickup shared tone pot, and independent bridge tone.
Like many Fender Custom Shop offerings, this ’64 Stratocaster comes out of the box in a luxurious G&G hardshell case in black tolex. For the greatest of vintage style appointments in a modern Stratocaster, the Fender Custom Shop never displeases.
