Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ’64 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic, Closet Classic Hardware, Sonic Blue
This Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ’64 Stratocaster Journeyman Relic is fresh in from those masterful musical magicians out in California. The dual Journeyman/Closet Classic treatment across the guitar lends the feel of a well-loved instrument that’s taken on some upgrades through the years.
The two-piece alder body is dressed in an enticing Faded Aged Sonic Blue nitrocellulose lacquer finish. The Journeyman Relic job is present but not too heavy-handed with some attractive fine checking lines and small, nicks and dings just barely down to the wood scattered across the body. The hardware has seen a lighter, Closet Classic aging process for a less worn look.
The AA flame maple neck really pops with some gorgeous three-dimensional figuring all the way up to the headstock and there is a touch of hand wear on the sides in the first position. The fretboard is a stunning piece of AAA rosewood that’s been sorted for darkness and is loaded with 21 Narrow/Tall 6105 frets. Measuring .810″ at the first fret and chunking up to a beefier .970″ at the twelfth and is comfortable throughout and a modern 9.50″ radius ups the playability quotient.
The electronics for this Fender Custom Shop Limited Edition ’64 Stratocaster start with 3 hand wound Custom Shop Strat Texas Specials and are wired together with Fender’s Strat Vintage Mod #2 wiring. Fender Texas Specials are overwound for hotter output with chewy midrange bite, pristine highs, and tight bass response.
This guitar is decked out head to toe with classic, vintage Fender style and the sound that redefined the hot tone of Texas blues.
