Fender Custom Shop Nocaster Electric Guitar, Heavy Relic, 2-Color Sunburst
The Nocaster holds a special place in the Fender’s illustrious history, and this Fender Custom Shop Nocaster in a 2-color Sunburst Heavy Relic does the job of representing its lineage. Arriving in the early 1950s as one of the earliest iterations of the Telecaster, the guitar was originally named the “Nocaster” due to a legal dispute, and this recreation boasts some period-correct specs, as well as some more modern.
A 2-piece ash body boasts wood that’s been carefully selected by the FCS to be as light as possible. The whole guitar is relic’d in the Fender Custom Shop’s “Heavy Relic” treatment, and the body shows it well, with multiple areas worn down to the wood underneath, and multiple areas with body checking.
5/4-sawn maple makes up the neck of this guitar, and boasts a Nocaster “U” profile, one that’s thicker than you might expect from a Nocaster. On the neck, a maple fingerboard with a fingerboard radius of 9.5″ and Sanko 6105 fret wire, feature Micarta Black inlays. The heavy relic’ing extends to the fretboard where there’s deep wear, as well as the back of the neck which is worn to wood almost the whole way down.
One of this guitar’s more modern features is its pickup offerings, two Fender Twisted Tele pickups that offer a potent blend of high-output Tele tone, with a touch of sparkling Strat essence. Both wired for their positions, each pickup boasts its own unique sonic personality. The neck pickup features a taller bobbin designed to house additional windings, while the bridge pickup bobbin is slightly shorter, resulting in a rich, full-bodied midrange with a darker tonal character.
Vintage hardware takes this Nocaster home, from its ashtray-style bridge to its vintage tuning machines, which feature the iconic Fender logo. This instrument comes compete with a FCS tweed hard case included.
