Gibson 1934 Jumbo – Vintage Sunburst
Many folks may not expect to look back as far as the early 1930s and see a Gibson that swings with the best of our modern acoustics, but it’s that element of surprise of the 1934 Jumbo that is part of what makes it so outstanding. The master luthiers at the Gibson Acoustic Custom Shop looked back in Gibson’s history to craft this spot-on revival of an early Gibson classic. With its first introduction in 1934, the Jumbo was larger than any other Gibson offered at the time. Two lone production years saw the original Jumbo come and go, but the legacy of the instrument lived on through artists and collectors. Today, Gibson’s original Jumbo acoustic returns for players to experience Gibson history firsthand.
The 1934 Jumbo is a faithful recreation of the early Gibson classic. A traditional twenty-five inch scale length and Gibson Advanced Jumbo shaped body gives the 1934 Jumbo its namesake size and sound. Thermally Aged Adirondack red spruce makes up the Jumbo’s top while its mahogany back and sides come together for a classic Gibson tonewood combination. The 1934 Jumbo’s historic-style “V”-shaped mahogany neck is paired with a rosewood fingerboard with nineteen standard-sized frets. A bone nut, saddle, and set of bridge pins with Waverly tuners to keep intonation solid and precise. Accompanied by a Gibson period-correct case and accessory kit, this 1934 Jumbo is a fully realized historic Gibson experience.
From one of the most legendary names in music, the 1934 Jumbo is a love letter to fans of Gibson and acoustic guitars in general. This revived replica has all the special essence and awesome aura of historic and modern instruments simultaneously. With a guitar like this, Gibson looks back on their history while keeping their eye to the future, showing a design that is decades old has never lost its luster.
