Gibson Custom Shop ’61 ES-335 Reissue Electric Guitar, Brunswick Green Gloss, VOS
The Gibson Custom Shop ’61 ES-335 Reissue revives the iconic model first introduced in the early 1960s, in eerily similar fashion while maintaining the adored characteristics that have made the original a staple in the world of electric guitars.
Crafted with a 3-ply Maple/Poplar/Maple body, the ES-335 features a solid Maple centerblock, contributing to its resonance and allowing it to be able to endure higher-gain performance with less feedback issues that fully hollow instruments. 1-Ply Royalite binding follows the iconic, instantly recognizable contours of this guitar’s body, and two f-holes are punched into its top.
The neck of this reissue sports a SlimTaper 60s C profile, one of its changes over the original model. The neck is topped with an Indian Rosewood fingerboard, which is divided by 22 Medium Jumbo frets, with Pearloid Dot inlays between. The fingerboard and neck offer a total scale length of 24.75″, and the nylon nut measures at 1.687″ wide.
Two of Gibson’s own Custombucker Alnico III pickups in both the neck and bridge positions are what make this guitar such an amazing reissue of the original, faithfully recreating the iconic, classic Gibson humbucker-in-hollow tone that’s 335 lovers have come to expect. These unpotted pickups allow additional responsiveness and dynamic range and are tamed by a control scheme that follows the traditional 335 guidelines: 2 Volume and 2 Tone, and a 3-way Switchcraft pickup selector. Some of the modern upgrades to this vintage-inspired guitar’s guts are CTS 500K Audio Taper Potentiometers, coupled with Paper-in-Oil Capacitors.
Finished in Nickel, the hardware components, including the ABR-1 bridge, nickel-plated brass saddle, lightweight aluminum stop bar tailpiece, and Kluson Single Line, Double Ring tuning machines, make this guitar shine in contrast to its darker Brunswick Green body finish.
The guitar is outfitted with a Black 5-Ply Wide Bevel pickguard, offering protection against scratches and pick damage. The Authentic 1950s No-Tube truss rod is period-accurate, and is covered with an Authentic Stepped 2-Ply truss rod cover. The gold control knobs pop against the guitar’s darker finish, and a black/yellow Custom Shop hardshell case, keeps this amazing reissue in amazing shape.
