Gibson SJ-200 Standard Rosewood Acoustic-Electric Guitar, Rosewood Burst
The “King of Flattops”, the acoustic beast comes with a nickname that this SJ-200 Standard Rosewood carries with pride. With early models featuring bodies made of rosewood, this iteration of the Gibson SJ-200 nods to its past with a back and sides made from the same, finished in a natural gloss, combined with a top made from Sitka spruce finished with a stunning Rosewood Burst. The body’s Super Jumbo stature and flattop design make it widely acclaimed for its projection and resonance.
Mahogany makes up the neck of this SJ-200, and it’s carved to a cozy rounded profile that fills the hand. The neck is topped with a fingerboard of rosewood, divided by 20 total frets, of which 14 are accessible before the body and neck meet. Between frets, Mother-of-Pearl inlays take the classic Gibson “Graduated Crown” shape, adding some vintage-inspired elegance to this workhorse of a guitar. The total scale length of this instrument is a generous 25.5 inches.
Although this instrument is loved for its unplugged acoustic qualities, an onboard L.R. Baggs Anthem Piezo Pickup and Microphone system allow it to be plugged in, and offer a hi-fi reproduction of the guitar’s nuanced tonal qualities.
The “King of Flattops” is crowned with gold plated Grover Imperial tuning machines at its headstock, and also boasts a one-of-a-kind mustache bridge of rosewood, as well as an eye-catching graphic on its beautifully-shaped pickguard. This instrument comes complete with a Gibson hard case.Â
