Martin HD-35 Acoustic Guitar, Sitka Spruce Top, Rosewood Back and Sides, Natural
The Martin HD-35 dreadnought acoustic is most certainly a guitar that categorizes under “needs no introduction.” It is one of the most recognized acoustic guitars in history, having been utilized on countless recordings and by some of the most respected musicians and songwriters.
Martin is responsible for inventing the Dreadnought body design, the Dovetail neck joint, and scalloped bracing – all features incorporated into the HD-35 guitar, and almost every acoustic guitar made in the last 200 years. Martin still builds this model among other eternally great instruments with pride in Nazareth, PA – right here in the good ol’ U-S-of-A.
If you aren’t familiar with what makes an HD-35 the guitar it is, you’ve come to the right place. An HD-35 is a D-35 guitar with one slight but extraordinarily classy upgrade: Herringbone top binding. Think of Herringbone binding like the right pair of cufflinks to wear with your favorite three-piece suit.
The HD-35 – and the D-35, for the matter – are distinguished by a three-piece Rosewood back and side body construction, bound fingerboard, and enclosed gear tuners. This model has a history of being known as “the workingman’s guitar” for its enhanced stability to its sibling, the D-28, which features a two-piece Rosewood back and side construction.
In 2018, the HD-35 and many other classic Martin acoustics were revamped with upgrades to make the guitar look and play better than previous years. These key features included Martin’s Aging Toner top finish, forward shifted scalloped bracing, and a new “low oval” neck profile for a classic thick feel without being akin to a baseball bat.
Other standard features on the HD-35 include an Ebony fingerboard, tortoise pattern pickguard, 25.4” scale length, Mother-of-Pearl inlays, and 16” radius. The HD-35 is also available left-handed, and is offered with or without electronics. Martin offers pickup options such as the LR Baggs Anthem and the Fishman Gold Plus Natural.
This stalwart Martin acoustic is perfectly suited for country, bluegrass, rock, or pop music. If you’re looking for a classic American-made acoustic guitar with iconic style and just the right amount of flash, the Martin HD-35 may just be your fit. This guitar is available at Russo Music, and our generous and educated staff is able to set you in the right Martin direction.
