Shure SM7dB Dynamic Cardioid Vocal Microphone w/Active Preamp
The Shure SM7db Active Dynamic Vocal Microphone is a brand-new introduction to the SM7 family of microphones, first introduced fifty years ago in 1973. The SM7dB builds upon the popular SM7B dynamic microphone with a built-in active preamp designed in a collaborative effort between Shure and Cloud Microphones. Since most SM7B users are often incorporating an outboard mic pre in their signal – with one of the most popular choices being the Cloudlifter Preamp – the SM7dB builds that technology into an SM7B dynamic microphone. It is not replacing the SM7B, it is simply a new solution.
The SM7dB features the same build and controls as the SM7B, with familiar Bass Roll Off and Presence Boost EQ switches on the back panel. It’s preamp – with selections for a +18dB boost or +28dB boost – is phantom powered, and the microphone will still work passively with the preamp disengaged.
The SM7dB is an ideal solution for those who are looking to utilize the classic sound of the SM7B with a simpler signal flow, or perhaps for those new to podcasting daunted by numerous outboard hardwares.
